One really great thing about using an industrial machine is that it takes no time at all to whip up a muslin! I love this Burda Style jacket (8/2009); this is a petite size 20 and I made just one change by adding an extra 3/8 inch of ease through the hip in the front. The sleeves are drafted really well and went in easily with minimal easing. I love the military-motorcycle jacket styling of this design.
The fashion fabric will be charcoal grey tropical wool with an acid-y green charmeuse lining, both came from Gorgeous Fabrics. Tropical wools are good for Boston’s climate because its a three season fabric. I already have a skirt made from this same wool, the skirt from Hot Patterns Sportive Suit. If have enough left after this jacket I may make another A-line skirt for fall-winter, either Vogue 7910 (view B) in the fasion fabric or Hot Patterns Metropolitan Superfly Skirt in a dark wash denim.

Should be gorgeous. Burda does draft a great sleeve. I almost never have an issue with their set in sleeves.
What size snaps are you going to use? I’m waiting until the PR contest to sew mine up. Any snags you found in the pattern?
OMG, that is gorgeous! Naturally, now that I let my WOF subscription lapse I’m seeing so many great new patterns. Are those the tortoise shell snaps? Mine are sitting on my desk – I’m studying them to try to decide what to use them on.
This is working up beautifully. I have had my eye on that pattern as well and appreciate that another petite is reviewing it. Thanks.
I’m sure that will be a fabulous jacket. Looking forward to seeing it.
Seriously…that’s a size 20? I looked at that and passed thinking the size would be too small…I could work with that…maybe even make a muslin! *LOL*
Such a sharp jacket…love it. If the muslin looks this good, the finished jacket will be fabulous! But then again, all your work is fabulous…I always look forward to what you will create next!
This looks like it’s goona be great. I’m kind of excited for jacket weather now!
Jennifer, its a really well drafted pattern and no problems emerged with the drafting in terms of sewing up the muslin. One thing I did notice is the upper facing is shown cut-on in the traced-off pattern and in the layout, but if you look at the finished garment photo it’s sewn on. I like the way it looks sewn on, so I separated that facing piece. The snaps are size 32 Ligne (about 1 inch diameter) and they are $2.50 a pair at Pacific Trimming. With shipping they came to about $5 a pair.
Thanks for the tip on the snaps and the facing. I’m tracing mine this weekend. Do you plan to interline?
No, and that’s because I’m waitng for a new interfacing from Pam Erny at Fashion Sewing Supply. My fabric is a light tropical wool, and the applicable interfacings I have (a fusible medium hair canvas or a light knit) would be too heavy or too light. Pam describes it as a “Weft meets Light Canvas meets Silky Rayon blend” and I think it will be perfect. She doesn’t have it on her web site yet but you might want to email her if you’re interested.
