For about a year now I’ve been obsessed with particle based patterns and I think this is happening because the company I work for, Microfluidics, makes machines that are used to reduce substances to submicron particles. These machines are used to manufacture inks, cosmetics, food, cancer drugs and vaccines. The flu shot you’ll get this fall will very likely be manufactured on one of our production-grade machines.
So all day I hear about things like deaglomeration, cell disruption, liposomes and carbon nanotubes – clearly this has begun to seep into my fabric consciousness!
What influences your fabric choices?

Wow! Those images would make a great fabric line.
I love it! Brings me back to my chemistry and microbiology days- sigh…
Well nothing cellular like this. Right now I’d be happy to find an animal print that doesn’t look tacky.
I think many of my purchases have been fueled by the greed to get something on sale. Online fabric stores send me an email about a sale and I click “buy.” It is a good way to build my stash but maybe not so satisfying in the end for sewing. Sigh.
Animal and geometric or abstract are pretty much the only prints I like. Not too much color going on here usually, though I do go crazy every once in a while. I like that Marc Jacobs print too, and I keep looking at it and wondering what I’d make with it. Usually I look for high quality that won’t break the bank.
As general legal counsel for Microfluidics, I regret to inform you that any idea you have for fabric designs taken from Microfluidics technology are now Microfluidics property.
Well…lately I have wondered what influences my fabric choices. I have lots of fabric, but cannot decide what to sew next. I go through my stash, and every so often (too often) I say to myself, “What the heck was I thinking??!!”
Kris cut it out! Geez you’re gonna scare somebody. (he’s the Marketing Director at Microfluidics)
